The annual Museum Night in Þingeyjarsýslam was held at the end of August, and museums and exhibitions in Þingeyjarsýslam offered a varied program for the occasion. The program covered a longer period of time than has been the norm in recent years, from Thursday evening to Sunday. Was it done to give guests the opportunity to attend more events. The Museum Night is part of the activities of the Museum Forum, a collaboration platform between museums and other organizations that share culture, history and nature in Þingeyjarsýslam.
About 60 people visited the Whale Museum on the open day of the Museum Night. Among the guests were the couple Sigríður Magnúsdóttir and Höskuldur Þráinsson, who were passing through Húsavík, but they own Ásbúðir á Skaga together with Sigríður's cousins. As many people know, the sperm whale that is on display in the Whale Museum ran aground in the land of Ásbúði in 2010, and it became part of the couple's work cycle to determine what to do with the carcass. "We first contacted the Norwegian Marine Research Institute, but there we were directed to talk to the Icelandic Natural Science Institute, and after that we were mostly in contact with Ævar Petersen."
