Last Saturday, the whale-watching companies Gentle Giants and Norðursigling went on their last whale-watching trip of 2019. This ended a 9-month period, but the first trips were made on March 1. According to a news report Gentle Giants November was unique, as it was possible to sail every day and the bay was full of life. At best, 30 humpback whales were seen on the same trip, as well as other species such as whales and dolphins.
The whale museum in Húsavík sailed into the winter after a successful summer where the number of visitors ended up being over 31 thousand people. It was open every day from April 1st to October 31st. From the beginning of November until the end of March, however, it will be open on weekdays from 10-16.
The museum's employees are now busy working on traditional winter tasks related to maintenance, cataloging items, updating exhibitions and various collaborative projects to name a few.
