The whale school

The Whale School of the Whale Museum is a project that aims to educate students in kindergarten, primary, secondary and university in the region about whales and their habitat in Iceland.

It can be assumed that each student visits Hvalskólín three times during his kindergarten and primary school years, when he is at the pre-school stage, and twice in primary school; in 2nd grade and 5th grade.

In this way, students receive tasks tailored to their abilities and development at any given time. In this way, the knowledge of the students at the Whale School is slowly being added to.

The youngest students get
easy tasks based on learning through play and observation of the environment, but the same students are given more complex tasks
as they get older, based on the knowledge they have acquired previously in Hvala School.

In the years 2013-2019, one of the museum's exhibition spaces was dedicated to the Whale School. There you could find the work of students in the oldest year of Grænuvalli kindergarten, the 2nd and 5th grades of Borgarhólsskóli in Húsavík and students in scientific English at the Secondary School in Húsavík.

The whale museum welcomes all school groups to a guided tour of the museum.
