Successful whale watching season in Húsavík

Today is August 1st. The Icelandic tourism season is at its peak point. Currently there's a mind-blowing 22 degrees celcius in Húsavík (for locals that's extremely warm) and the town is therefore very much alive. June was quite cold in Húsavík and the first part of July as well. The number of tourists have matched expectations for most parts though. The whale watching season in Húsavík has been very successful with the usual sightings of humpback whales, blue whales, minke whales, white beaked dolphins and harbor porpoises, the killer whale has also been spotted on a more regular occasion than usual.

The Húsavík Whale Museum is open every day in August from 8:30-18:30. Tickets can now be bought via our website.

Whale watching in full bloom in Skjálfandaflói

Today is the 1st of August, so it can truly be said that the peak of the Icelandic travel summer has been reached. At the time of writing, the temperature in Húsavík is 22 degrees, there are a lot of tourists and the town is bustling with life. Summer was pretty late this year. June was cold and wet and so was much of July. However, the number of tourists largely exceeded expectations. Also, whale watching in Skjálfandaflói has gone well and there has been a lot of life in the bay all summer. There have been a lot of humpback whales, whales and dolphins and there have also been many sightings of porpoises. Also, killer whales have been seen considerably more often than in recent years.

In general, everyone has been whale watching in Iceland this summer. According to vísi.is for example, there have been very few whales in Eyjafjörður in the month of July.
