In 2016, the Whale Museum decided to stop operating the freezers on the ground floor of the building. Operating costs had increased a lot over the years and it no longer served the purpose of renting them out. Instead, the museum advertised part of the lower floor for sale and the company Steinsteypir bought 15% of the building in 2017. We took a huge amount of work on demolition, structural reinforcements and general construction work. Part of the space now houses a public toilet, but you can also find a hand shop and a restaurant in the "Steinsteypisrím". The years 2017-2019 have been very eventful in the renewal of the exterior, as the comparative pictures testify.

The foundry exhibition opened on March 12 after 6 months of work on the installation of the frame and other necessary changes. The official opening in the presence of the Minister of Education Illuga Gunnarsson was held on May 22 of the same year.
