The whale museum sells parts of freezers

The Whale Museum in Húsavík and Steinsteypir ehf have reached an agreement on the latter's purchase of around 255 square meters of vacant space on the 1st floor (ground floor) in the Hvalasfn's building. These are the spaces that face the quayside and used to be freezers for years, but have recently been empty. Kaupfélag Þingeyinga owned and operated the freezers for the longest time, but their last tenant was Norðlenska hf. The whale museum will continue to have a space on the ground floor that used to house the museum's storage, and is currently being renovated. In addition, the Whale Museum will continue to have another storage space on the ground floor that was previously rented out.

Tourism related activities
Steinsteypis ehf plans to renovate these spaces in a high-quality manner and use part of them for the operation of toilet facilities for tourists. Other spaces will be designed for various tourism-related activities. The location of the spaces by the quayside is good, and this brings life to the spaces in question, which have been empty for some time.

Extensions will be demolished
Along with this transaction, Steinsteypir ehf will take on the demolition of two annexes (a total of about 160 sq m) at the Whale Museum's building, both of which are the property of the museum. These annexes belonged to cold storage operations and are now in very poor condition. With this, the Whale Museum's building rights to the north will expand significantly.
