Many reefs in Skjálfandaflói

In recent days, high and majestic jets have been seen by whale-watching boats at Skjálfand, and such jets often characterize the blowing of whale sharks. The animals are traveling a bit later this year than in previous years, but they have, however, brought Skjálfand home in the month of June in recent years. Up to six minke whales have been seen on the trips of the whale watching companies, but such a number is rarely seen on one and the same trip, including a cow with a calf.

The University of Iceland's research center in Húsavík conducts research on the sounds of gannets using recording technology that includes a series of underwater recording devices, and the purpose of the research is to investigate the reactions of gannets to the playback of low-frequency sounds from a large underwater speaker. In addition, two sea urchins have been tagged with a sound recording device (tag) for the purpose of the study.
