A Busy Week at the Museum

As part of our Museums Connect Project: Connecting Coastal Communitieson which we have been working with New Bedford Whaling Museum, our counterparts from New Bedford visited last week. Six students and two museum employees arrived Sunday the 17th and spent six days in Reykjavik and Husavik area.

The Husavik group took on a bus trip from Husavik to Reykjavik to welcome their guests and during their stay in Reykjavik, they among other things visited Whales of Iceland, the US Embassy and the most popular attractions in Reykjavik: Hallgrimskirkja Churh, Perlan and Harpa Conference Hall.

In Husavik the schedule was filled with activities and here we will list a few. It started with a guided tour around Husavik with museum’s director Jan, followed  by a warm welcoming at the Mayors office, meeting with the Husavik group in the whale museum and getting a guided tour through the intesting Husavik Museum and Culture House.

The Husavik parents played a big role on Tuesday evening when the whole group and families was invited to taste real home made meal, including the famous Icelandic meat soup, fish stew and flat bread with smoked lamb and smoked trout. To top the evening, the Mayor Kristjan Thor met with the group and discussed the importance of projects and opportunities like that for the youth.

All in all a great week where our participant were granted the change to get to know each other and each others culture.
